Our Mission

Arctic Research and Development (ARD) is building technology to unlock the last great frontier on Earth. An expanse 1.5 times the size of the US, the Arctic is becoming the epicenter of geopolitical tensions, climatic shifts, and economic opportunity. We cut through this complexity — while preserving the integrity of the planet’s most fragile wilderness.

Built by pioneers with 30+ years of polar experience, we know that autonomous systems are the key to operational success. Working at the fringes of technological capabilities, this is a company that takes big bets on hard problems. If you want to build and deploy ground-up technology with real-world impact - at an inflection point in history that won’t reappear - we want you at ARD.
The Role

As a Full-Stack Software Engineer at Arctic Research and Development, you’ll help architect and build the digital backbone of our Arctic deployments. From mission dashboards to field-asset comms, your work will connect autonomous platforms, human operators, and cold-accustomed networks.

You’ll work alongside engineering teams, taking direction from our CTO and internal deployment strategists, to move fast and ship often. This is more than building UIs — it’s a full-spectrum command and control that needs to be robust, secure, scalable, and field-ready.

Core Responsibilities
  • Build and iterate our in-house OS, including dashboards and mission tools that interface with imagery and data
  • Architect, test, and deploy pipelines essential for secure comms between field assets and off-grid networks
  • Develop fast feedback loops: live demos, pilots, and short-cycle deployments
  • Design systems for high reliability hosted and on-prem deployments
  • Conduct in-depth analysis to identify potential software risks and vulnerabilities
  • Travel to the Arctic when needed for R&D field testing and client meetings
What We Value
  • 5+ years of hands-on software development, ideally in fast-moving and remote-sensing environments
  • Strong grasp of GIS workflows, DevOps, geospatial data structures, and distributed systems
  • Knowledge of data privacy and on-prem/cloud secure storage infrastructure specific for customer deployment
  • Fluency in Python, JavaScript (Java/Go/Rust/Elixir is a bonus)
  • Readiness to operate in safe but cold environments while conducting R&D prototype field tests
What We Offer
  • Stock options and a competitive compensation
  • Mission-driven culture – focus on impact, not hours logged
  • Real field exposure – travel to Arctic sites and Outposts when needed
